It has come to light that American model Gigi Hadid was detained and fined in the Cayman Islands this month on suspicion of carrying marijuana.
The 28-year-old woman and her friend were held after their private flight touched down for a vacation on July 10. Their belongings were inspected whilst they were being held.

Hadid’s spokesperson emphasized that the marijuana was acquired through a lawful “medical license” in New York City, clarifying that its medicinal use has been permitted on Grand Cayman Island since the year 2017. Her record is clear, and she enjoyed her time on the island.”

In the Cayman Islands, customs and border control said that Hadid and her friend Lia MacCarthy had been detained for “importation of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia for the use of marijuana.”
The agency mentioned that it was a small amount intended for personal use.
As per the report from local newspaper Cayman Marl Road, they were taken to a detention center and later released on bail.
After a couple of days, they made an appearance at the Cayman Islands Summary Court, where they were subjected to a fine of $1,000 in Cayman Islands currency (equivalent to $1,200 USD or £920 GBP).
Despite the incident, the model still seemed to be enjoying her vacation. She posted beach photographs on Tuesday and said, “All’s well that ends well.”
